Calligraphic initial “J” in black in with a yellow wash. This initial opens a text “Justus germinabit” derived from the book of Hosea, “The just shall spring like the lily….” The chant is for the feast of St. Joseph. Size: 20 ½ x 14 ¾ in. Several large initials in blue or red with contrasting penwork. Line prickings evident in the margin. Eight-line initial “I” opens a text from John 3 including verse 16, “For God so loved the world….” Recovered from a binding. Size: 13 ½ x 7 ¼ in.
